Vapor Barrier

As South Florida residents we all know how bad the humidity can be but did you know how bad it is for your roofing components?
Vapor barriers are installed because water vapor causes several types of roof assembly failures. Vapor barriers are defined as a building’s envelope element that limits diffusion of moisture into an assembly – diffusion is water vapor that travels into a material. Vapor barriers limit moisture diffusion.
Some materials have more resistance than others and by placing a high-resistance material in a roof assembly it may help to control moisture migration. The proper design and installation of a vapor barrier is critical to the long term operation of a roofing system.
